Developing Stained Glass Cremation Urns for a U.S. Wholesaler
A reference image can show the intended appearance of an urn, but the glass technique and its fit with the urn body still need to be worked out. We are currently developing samples for a U.S. cremation urn wholesaler who supplied glass reference images and design requirements and asked about minimum order quantities and pricing. We proposed three glass options—digital printing, hand painting, and Tiffany-style assembly—and recommended a solid wood alternative to the resin body.
Three Glass Panel Options for Cremation Urns
The options proposed for this project are:
- Digitally Printed Glass: The design, including its colors and outlines, is printed onto tempered glass.
- Hand-Painted Glass: Color is applied by hand to tempered glass. Samples allow the customer to review the coloring, edges, and painted details.
- Tiffany-Style Stained Glass: Individual pieces of colored and textured glass are cut and soldered together. The seams form part of the design. We propose using lead-free solder for this project.

Left to right: printed glass, hand-painted glass, and Tiffany-style stained glass. These images illustrate the techniques only; they do not show this customer’s custom design, selected option, or purchased product.
The samples will let the customer compare printed outlines, hand-applied color, soldered seams, and the texture of the glass before choosing a production method.
Solid Wood Cremation Urns with Decorative Glass Panels
Alongside the glass options, we recommended replacing the reference product’s resin body with solid wood. Our existing suppliers can coordinate the woodwork and glass fabrication. Based on the current project costing, this substitution would not increase the purchase cost. For a new shape that would otherwise require a dedicated resin mold, wood construction can also reduce the mold investment. Final pricing depends on the design, specifications, and quantity; suitable order volumes and repeat orders can help reduce unit costs further.
The printed and hand-painted options use a single tempered glass panel. For the soldered Tiffany-style panel, we proposed evaluating an additional tempered glass layer or a full, light-colored solid wood backing. The aim is to separate the decorative panel from the ash compartment and reduce the possibility of the contents pressing directly against the assembled glass during filling or handling. The solid wood backing would also conceal the interior and provide a light background behind translucent glass. Support, mounting, and fixing details will be checked during sampling.
Glass Panels, Wood Frames, or Complete Cremation Urns
We can supply decorative glass panels, solid wood urn frames, or complete stained glass cremation urns to suit the customer’s assembly arrangements. Shapes and dimensions can be developed from customer drawings and requirements, with minimum order quantities and pricing assessed for the chosen process, construction, and quantity. See our Wholesale & Business page for information about working with us.
Sampling is underway. We plan to ship the completed urn sample together with glass samples made using all three techniques so the customer can compare them before deciding on the next stage.
This case covers the production methods, construction options, and supply arrangements only. The customer’s proprietary designs and commercial information are not disclosed. Without authorization, we do not publish customer designs, use them for other customers’ projects, or sell them as standard products. Royal Memorials’ own designs are also used only within the applicable permissions.
